Measures in place to travel to La Digue for feast of Assumption |07 August 2021
In view of the continuing community transmission primarily on Mahe, it is important to note that La Digue presently has only four active cases of Covid-19.
With the patronal feast of Assumption approaching and the traditional gathering of people from Praslin and Mahe on La Digue, there is an increased risk of a resurgence of cases.
Considering the above, the following measures announced on August 4, 2021 are being put in place with effect from Thursday August 12 until Tuesday August 17, 2021.
- Travel to La Digue and Praslin is discouraged unless it is for work purposes.
- All passengers except foreign visitors going to La Digue must have a rapid antigen test 24 hours or less before departing for La Digue.
- The carrier should not board a passenger without proof of a negative Covid-19 result. The test must be sourced from a private company.
- The advice for hotels and guesthouses on Praslin and La Digue to refrain from taking bookings from local residents are maintained.
- In addition, existing public health measures remain in force. These include no gatherings of more than four persons unless for work purposes, no shows, no mixing of households, movement restrictions between 11pm and 4am, closure of shops, bars and casinos at 7pm.
- There is also currently an increase in the number of gastroenteritis cases among children on Mahe.
- Children should refrain from traveling to the inner islands with immediate effect.
- Ferries are to take extra precautions for better distancing and infection prevention and control measures, especially with the south east monsoon weather.
