Football - Plaisance disband again |16 July 2016
Football in the district of Plaisance just can’t catch a break in recent times. After the closure of the 2009 team who were eventually relegated partly due to off-field matters despite having been very promising during the previous seasons, fans have once again seen their team disband after a poor start to the first division campaign.
It was Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) secretary general Jemmy Adela who explained to Sports NATION that Plaisance have been automatically disqualified from the SFF national league after they failed to show up for two consecutive games.
Plaisance stormed through the third and second divisions locally, winning back-to-back promotions and were looking for another strong first division campaign, but the team have found life hard in the top flight, where they were without a single point in 11 games.
Rumours that the team might disband started when coach Jeris Cesar left the team, along with Che Dorasamy’s transfer to St Louis and Andy Mougal joining Foresters. After that the team did not turn up for their game against Côte d’Or last Saturday and the disbandment was confirmed when they did not turn for Thursday’s match against St Michel.
Manager Franky d’Unienville had this to say to Sports NATION: “The players simply did not turn up for training as the sponsors had promised them ‘heaven and earth’, but then failed to deliver, which caused them to be discouraged.”
He added though that he will now be looking to get another group of young players together next year so that they can start again in the third division.
Meanwhile, we have learned that midfielder Henny Dufresne has also joined St Louis.
