Air Seychelles adds Cape Town to regional network

Air Seychelles starts flights to Cape Town on March 21

These Sunday flights will go via Johannesburg, which will also still be served by the current weekly Friday service.

Air Seychelles has been operating to South Africa since 1993 and is now the only carrier flying wide-bodied planes from there to any of the Indian Ocean islands.

The move is in line with the airline’s corporate strategic plan to expand its regional network.

In a press release on Thursday, Air Seychelles’ executive chairman Captain David Savy said: “The commencement of services to Cape Town has been in our sights for a while and, given the increase in the number of visitors from South Africa as well as a significant number of new South African home owners in Seychelles, it is opportune to test the market.

“We also hope to capitalise on the forthcoming Fifa football World Cup, encourage tourism from Cape Town to Seychelles and offer a second point in South Africa for Seychellois to travel to.”

The Cape Town service is also being supported by the developers of Eden Island.

Air Seychelles Flight HM 061 will operate the Cape Town service leaving on Sunday mornings at 8.10am, arriving in Johannesburg at 11.25am, flying on to Cape Town at 12.40pm and landing there at 2.50pm.

The return flight leaves the same day at 8.30pm, stopping in Johannesburg at 10.40pm and leaving for Seychelles at 11.55pm, landing on Mahe at 6.50am the next morning.

The direct Seychelles-Johannesburg-Seychelles flight will continue to operate on Fridays as per the normal schedule.
Cape Town becomes Air Seychelles’ 10th destination after Rome, Milan, Frankfurt, Zurich, London, Paris, Singapore, Mauritius and Johannesburg.
