Commonwealth Senior and Junior Weightlifting Championships-Agricole and Télémaque in action on Wednesday |17 October 2009

Télémaque will compete in the 48kg category and Agricole has entered for the 53kg division in the championships to take place at the Penang International Sports Arena from October 18-23.

The two lifters left yesterday accompanied by coach Reginald Estro.
Gold, silver and bronze medals for the total weights will be awarded to the top-three finishers in each category.

A total of 170 lifters have entered for the championships, from 20 countries –Nauru, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, Samoa, Fiji, Niue, Cook Islands, Australia, New Zealand (Oceania), Seychelles, South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius (Africa), India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore (Asia), Cyprus and Wales (Europe).

Télémaque made a clean sweep of the gold medals in the women’s junior 48kg category with new record lifts of 63kg (snatch) and 73kg (clean & jerk) for an Olympic total of 136kg at the African Weightlifting Championships in Kampala, Uganda.
Her snatch performance also earned her a silver medal in the senior category.

Agricole snatched a new Seychelles record of 78kg – 5kg more than her previous best – to win the silver medal in the women’s senior 53kg category at the same championships.
