Natcof2-Natcof to educate consumers on all fronts |08 January 2009
The forum’s chief executive Jules Hoareau said the website will inform consumers of their rights and responsibilities.
“Most importantly, there will be an alert section through which consumers will be warned of specific products or services which do not meet expected standards. They will also be able to log their complaints on line,” he said.
Natcof is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation affiliated to the Liaison Unit for Non-governmental Organisation (Lungos). It is a full member of the Consumers International (CI) based in UK.
It was officially launched in 1994 with the aim of building a strong consumer force that can advocate and assert itself to avoid exploitation by traders.
Natcof will also launch a youth consumer group.
“Another important plan for this year is to reach out to consumers on Praslin and La Digue. More visits will be made on these islands this year,” Mr Hoareau said.
Mr Hoareau thanked all ministries and agencies involved in consumer protection for their support.
“We are certain we can count on your relentless effort this year, special thanks to our collaborators: the Seychelles Bureau of Standards, the Seychelles Police, the Seychelles Nation, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
