Open Day at Anse Etoile-DA urges greater participation of inhabitants in district’s development |04 February 2008
The call came from the district’s administrator, Seraphin Madeleine, while officially launching the district’s open day on Friday.
The open days, being organized by district administrations all across the country, are the main activity to mark District Day, an annual event initiated last year by the Community Development department with the aim of allowing for the interaction and exchanges between district administrations and their communities.
Exhibitions depicting the results of work undertaken by the district administrations together with their partners are the main focus of the open days. Information on the different services accessible at the district administrations and on the various district based programmes are also being displayed.
Among guests present at the launching of the open day at Anse Etoile on Friday were the Minister for Community Development, Youth, Sports and Culture Vincent Meriton, and other partners of the district’s administration.
While addressing the guests, Mr Madeleine retraced the district’s achievements over the years and also the challenges faced.
He spoke of the realization of several important projects that have been of great assistance to the Anse Etoile community among which are secondary roads, bus shelters, fish market and housing projects.
Mr Madeleine nevertheless noted that the community should participate more in the development of the district.
He urged the community to join forces in the development of their district in order to live up to its motto “Shine To The Future”.
The open day at Anse Etoile, which was held in the district administration hall, featured photographs, leaflets, posters, project proposals, and also a host of equipment directly linked to the various partners involved in the running of the district.
Also on display was the district’s action plan for this year which stresses on various areas such as the promotion of a safe and healthy environment, better security in the community, more employment opportunities, more infrastructure in the district and more incentives and back-up in sports, among others.
The majority of districts will host their open day this coming weekend.
