Windsurfing: Mahé-Praslin race-Six sailboarders confirm participation |20 September 2007
The six windsurfers who are sure to take the start are Danny Gertrude, Allan Julie, Joel Fred, Clinton Léon, Pierre Wartelsteiner and Stephen Stravens who will be looking for his sixth consecutive and ninth title overall.
The record to beat in Saturday’s race is 57 minutes 51.62 seconds (57:51.62) set by Stravens in 2002.
Among the six who have enrolled for this year’s race, only Stravens, Gertrude, and Wartelsteiner participated in last year’s edition contested by 10 participants.
Danny Gertrude took the runner-up position behind winner Stravens and Pierre Wartelsteiner, who was only 15 years old then, was third overall. He also won the prize for best junior participant.
The race will set off at 11 a.m. at the HIS Enterprise at Providence and will conclude at the beach front of the Maison des Palmes hotel at Grand Anse Praslin.
