Athletics: 10-km road race-Labiche keeps on winning |17 October 2006
The race, which started at Mont Fleuri opposite the International School, saw the participation of 12 athletes including one female. From Mont Fleuri, the athletes had to go up to Brillant via Plaisance and then turn left to take the Providence Highway and head to Stad Popiler where the race ended.
Labiche, who had a perfect start, was alone in front throughout the race and he managed to maintain his first position and won the race in 32 minutes 02.2 seconds (32:02.2).
Boxer Nigel Benoit was second in 38:01.2 followed in third place by Andrew Florentine in 40:27.6. Former boxer Jerry Legras was the fourth athlete to hit the tape and his time was 39:52.4.
Dreadlocked runner Robert Radegonde completed the race in 40:24.3 to finish fifth overall although he was pushed by Ilm Mussard over the final 200 meters. Mussard was sixth in 40:27.6 and boxer Dave Aglaé seventh overall in 41.04.8.
The only female participant, Simone Jaffa, was the eighth athlete home and her time was 41:07.9. Randy Monthy was ninth in 42:29.1 whilst Odur Makoniare finished 10th in 47:46.3.
Devoted and faithful veteran athlete Selby Dora was the 11th and last competitor to cross the finishing line and his time was 1h10:21.5. Vincent Bandon was the only athlete who abandoned the race.
The presence of local boxers couldn’t go unnoticed in last Saturday’s race and according to coach Jerry Legras, they will try their best to participate in other races whenever they can.
