La Digue hospital staff urged to continue to deliver high-quality service

Minister Meriton was speaking during a meeting with the staff at the hospital recently, during which he also officially handed over a set of newly received equipment to the hospital. It was the second time that Mr Meriton met with the La Digue staff since he was appointed minister for health and social services in February this year.

"We should all work together to find the best ways to continue to better the already high-quality service being offered," Minister Meriton told the staff.

He explained that when delivering a service, the staff should at all times try to put themselves in the patient's place. This, he said, would surely help them to know what the patients really want and therefore give him or her the necessary service.

Minister Meriton said he was satisfied with the kind of service being offered by the hospital although its resources were limited.

Minister Meriton said the ministry was trying its utmost to provide everybody with an adequate service, but it was unfortunate that a few were abusing it.

Minister Meriton called on the staff to take good care of the new equipment, which include a washing machine, an overhead projector, three air conditioning units, wall and ceiling fans and a photocopier.

He also called on them to intensify the sensitization programme on the various services offered by the hospital.

On behalf of the Logan Hospital staff, Denise Cousin, the hospital's acting health coordinator, thanked the ministry for the equipment, which she said would surely help them continue to deliver a better service.

During the meeting the hospital staff also had the opportunity to voice their concerns over various issues such as the unavailability of other equipment, as well as air their views on the new scheme of service.

Minister Meriton was accompanied on his visit by the acting principal secretary for Health, Dr Jude Gedeon and social services principal secretary Antoinette Alexis.
