Seychelles and the UNODC pledge to continue working together to strengthen capacity |27 March 2025
The regional representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Eastern Africa, Ashita Mittal, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, at the Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Tuesday March 25, 2025.
Ms Mittal thanked the Seychelles government for its support towards the work of the UNODC and pointed out that Seychelles is a very important partner for UNODC.
She also pointed out that she was eager to share best practices from the Seychelles experience in dealing with drugs and crime with other countries.
The minister thanked UNODC for its unwavering support over the years, especially in the field of capacity building for law enforcement agencies.
Minister Radegonde also shared that maritime security was one of the country’s biggest challenges, highlighting the need for more support from regional partners to assist with tackling illicit maritime activities.
While discussing the emerging threat of cybercrime, Ms Mittal invited the government of Seychelles to become a signatory to the Hanoi Convention against Cybercrime, to be signed in Hanoi, Vietnam, this year. The minister affirmed that the government will consider the merit of signing the Hanoi Convention.
