World Day of Social Justice

Dr Herminie

United Seychelles leader calls for reflection on the state of social justice in our nation

“As we observe World Day of Social Justice on February 20, I urge every citizen to reflect on the state of social justice in our beloved nation. During the last four years, the gap in social equity has widened significantly. This growing disparity is painfully evident as an increasing number of our fellow citizens are now living in poverty – some in conditions of extreme hardship – while a select few continue to control the majority of our nation’s wealth.

“Youth unemployment is alarmingly high, exacerbated by a growing dependency on cheap foreign labour, enabled by weak governmental policies that fail to safeguard job opportunities for our young people. This ongoing trend denies our youth their fundamental right to employment and a chance at a better future.

“Moreover, the public healthcare system is failing to deliver adequate primary health care, depriving our citizens of their right to quality medical services. In addition, the victims of the CCCL explosion on December 7, 2023, are still waiting for proper shelter and justice, a result of the current administration’s lack of transparency and its inability to implement effective mechanisms for reparations.

“The United Seychelles Party has outlined strategic solutions in its manifesto aimed at alleviating poverty and creating a more equitable society. Our commitment is clear:

• Prioritising youth employment by ensuring that our young people have opportunities before foreign labour is considered.

• Implementing a comprehensive skills development strategy to empower our workforce and enhance productivity.

“Once again, United Seychelles strongly urges the government to publicly release the findings of the investigation into the CCCL explosion in Petit Paris. Transparency and accountability are vital for justice and public trust.

“Fellow citizens, there is hope. United Seychelles remains the only choice to restore our nation’s pride and dignity. Let us stand strong and be wise in our choice of leadership. Choose United Seychelles – the only path to a better Seychelles.”
