President Ramkalawan’s message to commemorate the International Day of Peace

‘It is through our individual actions that we can forge a society where peace thrives’

“On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, themed ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals,’ we unite as one community to support the global call for peace and an end to violence. This call is vital for each individual to take action in promoting peace as the cornerstone of a united and prosperous world. It is through our individual actions that we can forge a society where peace thrives, ensuring a brighter future for ourselves and our children.

“On Peace Day, we must reflect on the importance of peace in our lives, our communities, and our nation. It’s a day to contemplate the adverse consequences of violence, with war being a significant factor that continues to devastate humanity and strain relationships among families, neighbours, and friends.

“Seychelles has consistently been a nation that champions peace. We have always cared for our environment, welcomed visitors from all corners of the world, and diligently worked to eradicate poverty while ensuring equitable treatment for our people. Therefore, on this day, let us pledge to perpetuate this way of life for the social and economic development of our nation.

“Each one of us has a pivotal role to play in fostering unity, aiding those facing challenges, and bringing smiles to those experiencing sadness. Let us think twice before speaking ill of or taking harmful actions against others. Let us embrace forgiveness and live with love, harmony, and compassion. Let us persist in standing together for peace to build a better tomorrow and a stronger today.

“Wishing all Seychellois a happy International Day of Peace.”

Wavel Ramkalawan

President of the Republic of Seychelles
