Official handing over of day care matters to IECD |11 March 2023
Following the enactment of the new Early Childhood Development (ECD) Act 2022, which is in force effective January 2023, the Institute of Early Childhood Development now has the legal mandate for all childcare matters for the 0-5 age group.
This includes the registration and regulation of day care centres, which up to now was under the purview of the Ministry of Education.
As part of the transition process pertaining to day care matters, a handing-over meeting took place on Tuesday March 7, 2023, in the presence of the principal secretary of education services, Merna Eulentin and the chief executive of the Institute of Early Childhood Development, Shirley Choppy.
It was agreed that effective March 9, 2023, all persons interested in establishing a new day care centre and those who have already started the process with the Ministry of Education, should liaise with the Institute of Early Childhood Development located 3rd Floor, Espace Building, Ile du Port or call the main office number 4286565.
The Ministry of Education avails of this opportunity to express its sincere thanks to all day care operators who have over the years contributed towards early childhood development and looks forward to further collaborate with IECD to advance early childhood care and education in 2023 and beyond.
