New special needs school on the cards |20 December 2025

Seychelles’ President, Dr Patrick Herminie, has announced plans to construct a new, purpose-built school for children with special needs. The initiative aims to provide an improved environment for teaching, learning, therapy, and specialised care.
The announcement followed the President’s visits to the School for the Exceptional Child in Roche Caiman and the Autism Centre in North East Point, where he met with management, educators, and staff to assess current challenges. He was accompanied by Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment Pierre Laporte, Minister for Education and Human Resource Development David Pierre, and other officials.
In the interim, teachers and staff at existing facilities will benefit from specialised training in collaboration with international partners. This forms part of the government’s broader strategy to equip professionals with the skills needed to support children and foster their development into independent, productive citizens.
