The Danny Faure Foundation yesterday launched a painting competition for school children aged 6 to 12 years.

The theme of the competition is ‘The Ocean is the beating blue heart of our Planet. Protect it and preserve our future’.

Elaborating more on the competition to the press at the Beau Vallon beach, Alain de Commarmond, a board member, said that the objective of the competition is to sensitise the general public, especially the children, on the importance of our Ocean as the beating blue heart of our planet.

Mr De Commarmond said that the idea behind the competition is to inspire the children and to get them to express themselves on the different aspects of the Ocean in terms of its ecosystem etc..., and the need for it to be protected for future generations.

He stated that while the Ocean is a global topic and also one of the main focuses of the foundation, it found it fitting, since its launch in June 2021, to have its first activity based around it (Ocean).

He said that the foundation expects to gain new ideas coming from the young brains on how to better protect and preserve the Ocean for the future.

The competition will be divided into two categories: 6 to 8 years old and 9 to 12 years old. Each participant can submit two artwork maximum on A3 size paper and they are free to use any form of medium to create their paintings e.g. coloured pencils, pastels, water-based paint markers, collage etc…

The children are not required to register for the competition and once their art works are completed, they must be submitted through the foundation’s email; secretary@dannyfaurefoundation.org, as a scanned copy or in a JPEG image format. Those submitting physical copies must contact 2522275 for details of arrangement for collection. The deadline for submission is on September 6, 2021 and winners will be announced on September 27, 2021.

There will be six winners in each category and the twelve winning artworks will be featured in the foundation’s 2022 calendar and also on its website. The winners will be notified via phone call or SMS. Apart from prizes for the overall winners, all participants will receive a certificate of participation.

The jury will consist of art teachers and other experts in the field of culture, art, education and environment. Participants can contact the above email address and phone number for any additional information regarding the competition.

The Danny Faure foundation, an initiative of former President Danny Faure, is to promote Ocean governance, the Blue Economy as the next frontier of sustainable development, good governance, accountability and transparency for sustainable development in Africa, effective leadership and gender equality in a new generation of leaders in Africa and to educate and to encourage the youths to adopt positive lifestyles in shaping the country in its highest level of development – in the areas of education, health and environmental protection.
