International Family Day message by Peter Sinon, secretary general / interim president of One Seychelles political party

Peter Sinon

‘The family unit remains the pillar of our society’

“The family unit remains the pillar of our society. In this pandemic era of the ‘new normal’, information and communication technologies in particular, are playing critical roles to keep us relevant and functioning remotely to work from home as well as to still be in contact with our friends, colleagues and family members without having to physically be in the same location and increase risks of Covid-19 infection.

“As the information and communication technologies evolve, we must, especially as a remote island nation, aspire to keep abreast of those developments to enable more effective ways through which greater numbers and levels of our society can have access and do enjoy what has now becoming a basic requirement, rather than an optional luxury item. Access to the most effective and affordable ICT apparatus would ensure that apart from remaining effectively relevant and functional remotely, that we are also empowered to further cement our family values that we hold so dear in our creole culture.

“One Seychelles seizes the opportunity to single out the families of those essential and frontline workers such as our doctors, nurses, teachers, and police men and women in uniform who are out there at the forefront, in the fight against this invisible and deadly pandemic. They are the ones who have to grapple with the limitations of our existing ICTs to effectively discharge their respective duties in a satisfactory manner. Thus improvement of our existing ICT infrastructure remains a daunting and pressing challenge both in terms of access and affordability to benefit all levels of our small society. This is necessary to bring back confidence and consolidate our collective efficacy to inform and communicate better in our society that is founded on each and every single and functioning Seychellois family unit.

“Wishing each and every family, a Happy International Family Day.”
