President meets Seychellois owner of import/export company |06 March 2021
President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday met with Dr Carol Nalletamby, owner of EAST (Euro African Star Transport) Services cargo, an import/export company that has been importing products to the Seychelles for over three years now.
Ms Nalletamby was accompanied by her operations manager, Vincent Belize.
“We have chartered a cargo plane that will service the exportation of fish and other products from Seychelles to other countries,” said Ms Nalletamby.
The cargo plane is a direct flight to Europe and will be connected to other countries in the world.
Ms Nalletamby explained that the aircraft is on a six-week trial period to ascertain its suitability for the cargo requirements and fish exports of the Seychelles, after which a decision on the appropriate aircraft size will be made for a longer-term period.
The first flight, an Airbus A330 passenger and freighter, is expected to land on the main island of Mahé this morning.
“In terms of fish we are experiencing some difficulties as we were promised 17 tonnes to export to Europe and USA. However, with the unavailability of fish, this will be a challenge. Nevertheless we will have a 24 tonne cargo in the country tomorrow (this) morning and it will leave the same day at 7pm,” added Ms Nalletamby.
Mr Belize explained that the plane will come to the country every week, and has noted that fishermen have advised them that it will be better if it lands every Saturday.
He also called on all Seychellois who have cargoes to export to another country to come see them.
“We are also asking fish processing businesses to get on board as this is a project that will benefit Seychelles,” said Mr Belize.
