President Wavel Ramkalawan has sent a message of love, peace and unity on the occasion of Deepavali (Diwali), the Indian festival of lights.

President Ramkalawan’s message reads:

“On this most auspicious day of the celebration of lights, I would like to wish everyone a happy Deepavali.

“As we celebrate the festival of lights, may we allow ourselves to be transformed, that is to walk away from all darkness and influences of evil to allow good and positivity to rule our doings.

“Light brings with it love, peace and unity. In a world torn by egotism and self- centredness, my prayer is that Deepavali will once again dissipate such ways and bring us to accept each other as beings of the sole Creator.

“Covid has changed our lives and unfortunately this year the celebrations cannot take place. However, this gives us the opportunity to understand and realise that it is not the exterior manifestations that matter, but rather what emanates from the heart.

“Have a blessed Deepavali.”
