Tennis - Penlac assists the STA to start overhauling the courts |19 August 2020
The Seychelles Tennis Association (STA) is running a campaign to increase the number of tennis players, especially among the youth.
This is being kicked off with a two-week holiday camp by coach Nicolas to initiate new players into the game during the current school holidays.
Tennis, like all sports, helps children build stamina, fitness, confidence, agility, discipline, challenge, focus and skills that will aid them through their lifetime.
To assist this effort, and as a start, Penlac’s chairman and managing director, Gafoor Yakub, has donated several litres of its white road marking paint to clearly demarcate the court lines for all five tennis courts at Roche Caiman.
Mr Yakub explained that the reason his company is providing this support is because “Sports like tennis are essential to keep our youth off the streets and get them focused on pursuing a goal through healthy competition”.
For years, the faded lines have made it quite difficult for tennis players to distinguish whether the ball is “in” or “out”.
The road marking paint will help kick-start the renovation of the courts and revive the game.
According to one of Penlac’s sporty sales assistant, Sophia Jumaye, this is only a start.
She says they are hoping that as the company earns more money and puts aside money towards their CSR payments, they hope to be able to provide the STA with their special outdoor Pentop chrome oxide green paint for all five tennis courts at the Roche Caiman Fitness Centre, in addition to the white road marking paint.
The huge contribution and support of Penlac and its CEO is greatly appreciated by all tennis lovers. They hope with time and with the support of more businesses taking an active interest in providing this kind of hands-on, practical assistance, the game of tennis can be restored to its former glory.
