FPAC appeals for audit on FA4JR |07 August 2020
Due to an extremely disappointing meeting between the National Assembly’s Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) and Finance Minister Loustau-Lalanne yesterday, FPAC has appealed for an audit of the funds paid by the Financial Assistance for Job Retention (FA4JR) since April 2020.
The chairperson of FPAC, Wavel Ramkalawan, yesterday requested for the office of the Auditor General to undertake a robust audit of FA4JR because the committee has been unable to perform its oversight duty.
With the dissolution of the National Assembly today, FPAC is no longer functional hence the reason why it felt the necessity to delegate the task to the Auditor General.
Mr Ramkalawan urged the office of the Auditor General to prepare the audit for the 7th National Assembly to consider as soon as it takes office.
Mr Ramkalawan noted that the objectives of the government has changed over the course of these last four months and the Ministry of Finance’s inability to provide a list of payments as far back as April demonstrates its unwillingness to give out information.
He noted that the government should have put in place a mechanism to track the spending more efficiently and ensure accountability and good governance.
