Roche Caïman fitness trail to re-open on Monday

The Roche Caïman fitness trail will open to the public as from Monday June 1

As from Monday next week, fitness enthusiasts will regain access to the Roche Caïman fitness trail after the facility was temporarily closed down as part of the temporary safety precautions against the coronavirus pandemic.

It was in March that all local sports activities were suspended until further notice, including the shutting down of all National Sports Council (NSC)-administered venues.

The 2.23km sporting and fitness facility or parcourse consists of a path or course with outdoor exercise equipment or obstacles installed along its length for exercising the human body to promote good health and it is designed to promote physical fitness training.

Upon its re-opening on Monday, the facility will modify its operations to suit the strict health guidelines as part of the national campaign to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to Francis Remie, director for the Sports For All Unit which coordinates the fitness trail’s programme within the NSC, the number of users will be restricted during the new normal period.

He noted that as from Monday, trail users will have to register and book their training days in advance for control purposes, limiting the number of people to 50 at the facility at one particular time.

Mr Remie further explained that once registered, everyone will get a number for identification purpose, while bookings will not be changed, unless the maximum number of trail users is not met on that particular day.

As for corporate or group training sessions, requests must be made in advance.

Despite all the new measures, the facility will remain free of charge.

Meanwhile, Mr Remie also announced that maintenance work on the outdoor gym at the beach just in front of the Savoy Resort & Spa at the Regatta site in Beau Vallon is in its final stages and the facility will be available to members of the public soon.

Again, the NSC is asking the gym users to follow the health guidelines such as social distancing and proper hygiene while enjoying the facilities.
