Cabinet approves new housing policy |23 April 2020

Cabinet has approved a new housing policy to provide assistance to citizens who own land but cannot afford to build their house in exchange for use of part of their private land for housing projects for other families with housing need.

This is one of several legal and policy memoranda that cabinet considered during a scheduled meeting chaired by President Danny Faure yesterday.

During the meeting cabinet also approved amendments to SI 71 of 2014: Economic Needs Test Criteria and Procedures.

Cabinet also approved amendments to the Birds Eggs (Collection) Regulations, 1972. Under this amendment Cosmoledo and Bird Island will be added to the schedule for birds eggs collection.

Cabinet was briefed on the status of oversized vehicles in the country.

Cabinet approved a temporary increase in levies on imported pork and poultry.

Cabinet also approved a temporary suspension of import permits for motor vehicles.

Cabinet also approved amendment to the Notaries Act.
