Attorney General Frank Ally meets with President Faure and warns of possibility of stricter regulations |09 April 2020
Attorney General Frank Ally on Thursday met with President Danny Faure at the State House whereby they discussed the newly-enforced measures called for by the Commissioner of Public Health Jude Gedeon, including a restriction on movement and trade premises, against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
AG Ally noted that the measures which came into effect as of midnight on Wednesday, and which limits the movement of people to essential services, were seldom being observed by residents on the first day, warning of possible legal consequences and more stringent measures in the foreseeable future.
“These orders are meant to protect public health and it will depend as he (the Public Health Commissioner) also has powers to review the orders so in the days to come, based on how the situation develops in the country, the commissioner will evaluate the orders and possibly bring about more restrictions”.
AG Ally called for the public to be prudent and cooperative during this critical period so as to limit the risk of propagation and a local outbreak of the infection, the effects of which would be catastrophic for Seychelles.
He also called for social distancing regulations to be observed, noting that the police will be intensifying checkpoints and taking action against persons not respecting orders, in accordance with the law and Public Health Act.
