State-of-the-nation address today |20 February 2020
President Danny Faure will deliver his nationwide annual State-of-the-Nation address today before the National Assembly.
This will mark the first sitting of the National Assembly for 2020 and it will also be President Faure’s fourth State-of-the-Nation address since he came to power on October 16, 2016.
It is a constitutional requirement that the head of state delivers a state-of-the nation address on the occasion of the first National Assembly sitting each year.
President Faure will deliver his address at 5pm and it will be broadcast live on television and radio.
After the address, the Assembly will adjourn until Tuesday February 25 at 9am when members led by leaders from both sides of the house – leader of the opposition Wavel Ramkalawan and leader of government business Charles De Commarmond – will give their replies.
