President resumes duty today |28 October 2026
“I am fit to resume duty. I will be President until 2030”
President of the Republic Dr Patrick Herminie resumes official duties today, Wednesday October 28, following a period of medical leave during which he was admitted to the Seychelles Hospital.
Speaking to the State House Press Office, the President described the attention around his health as “a storm in a teacup”.
He said the government is delivering across all sectors, and that some opponents, with little else to challenge, have exaggerated his illness, much of it through anonymous and fake social media profiles.
The President noted that most Seychellois understand illness is part of being human. Wishing harm on others, he said, goes against the values we learned from our elders. He expressed regret that some individuals had used his illness for political ends, with some going as far as wishing for his death to trigger fresh elections.
The President also explained what the Constitution provides should a sitting President die in office.
He thanked everyone who kept him in their thoughts and prayers.
