SDF ends search for missing SCG sailors, briefs families |24 October 2026
The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) Command has met with the families of the two Seychelles Coast Guard sailors who went missing following an incident on September 16, 2026, to provide an update on search efforts and formally inform them of the decision to terminate the operation.
During the meeting, family members were briefed on the extensive search operations conducted since the incident, including support provided by the French Navy, which deployed a naval vessel equipped with advanced search technology. The assistance included specialised sonar systems and remotely operated underwater vehicles used to aid the search.
The families were informed that search operations have now officially concluded following the exhaustion of all available local search resources and the completion of the French Navy’s efforts, which did not yield any further results.
The SDF assured the families that, despite the termination of the search, any new credible information or leads will be assessed and pursued as appropriate. It also emphasised that further assistance from international partners would be welcomed should future developments warrant additional action.
Family members were given the opportunity to raise concerns, seek clarification and receive information on the next steps, particularly regarding the ongoing investigation and the Commission of Inquiry appointed by the President of the Republic.
The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the families during this difficult period and pledged to keep them informed of any significant developments arising from the investigation.
