Seychelles, UN discuss climate, Sids priorities   |26 September 2026

Seychelles’ priorities on climate action, sustainable development and development financing were among the key issues discussed during a bilateral meeting between President Patrick Herminie and United Nations secretary general António Guterres in New York on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Mr Guterres underscored the urgency of accelerating the global transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy and strengthening support for climate adaptation, particularly for small island developing states (Sids). He also highlighted the importance of climate justice, including equitable access to financing and reforms to the international financial architecture to better address the vulnerabilities of developing countries.
