Commissioner reaffirms police commitment to peace

“Today (September 21), as Seychelles joins the international community in observing the International Day of Peace, I extend a heartfelt message of unity and goodwill to every citizen of our islands.

“This year’s theme, ‘Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day’, reminds us that peace is not simply enjoyed — it must be consciously nurtured by each of us.

“Fellow police officers, today we also mark Police Day. It is a moment to honour your dedication, courage, and commitment to serving and protecting our communities. I urge you to continue your duties with pride, integrity, professionalism, and respect, always mindful of the trust placed in us by the public. Together, let us uphold the highest standards of the Force and remain steadfast in our mission to make Seychelles safer and more peaceful for all.

“As a nation, we must strive to show more love, patience, and tolerance toward one another. Differences in opinion, belief, or background should never prevent us from treating each other with dignity and kindness. Peace begins with each of us – in the words we choose, the way we speak, and how we respond in moments of anger or disagreement. A kind word or a pause before reacting can make a profound difference.

“I also appeal to users of social media, particularly Facebook. While these platforms are powerful tools for communication, they must be used responsibly. Let us build bridges, not divisions. Refrain from posting or sharing insults, offensive remarks, or derogatory comments. Before posting, ask yourself: will these words bring people together, or will they cause hurt and division?

“The Seychelles Police Force remains committed to maintaining law and order, protecting people and property, preventing crime, and ensuring community safety. Yet peace is not the responsibility of the Police alone – it is a shared duty.

“On this International Day of Peace, I call upon all Seychellois to make a personal commitment to building a more peaceful nation. May peace, respect, understanding, and goodwill prevail among us – not only today, but every day, everywhere, for everyone.

“I wish all citizens a peaceful and meaningful International Day of Peace, and to my fellow officers, a proud and happy Police Day.”
