Understanding the difference between part-time and casual workers

Employers and employees alike need to clearly distinguish between part-time and casual work to ensure compliance with Seychelles’ labour laws. Although often confused, the two forms of employment are governed by different legal provisions and carry distinct rights, obligations and protections.
In an interview with Seychelles NATION, Alda Aumeeruddy, director for Industrial Relations, explained the differences between part-time and casual employment, the rights attached to each, employers’ responsibilities, and the steps workers should take if they believe they have been incorrectly classified.
