First place winners in the various categories with Minister Cosgrow

Winners recognised for transforming gardens, balconies into vibrant spaces of beauty

 Winners of the National Beautification and Home Garden Competition were recognised yesterday for their outstanding efforts in creating beautiful gardens and balconies, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Seychelles' Independence.

Organised by the Ministry of Local Government & Inner Islands, the competition attracted 84 contestants from across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Entries were judged in four categories – large garden, medium garden, small garden and balcony – recognising the creativity, dedication and passion of residents who have transformed their outdoor spaces into vibrant and welcoming environments.

Principal Minister Wallace Cosgrow, who also served as chairperson of the 50th anniversary committee, described the competition as a special national initiative that had emerged from the community itself.

“This national activity is something special, and the initiative stems from the community. We are excited to see the number of contestants and congratulate the ministry for this initiative, which showcases the contestants’ passion and results in vibrant and living communities,” said Principal Minister Cosgrow.

He added that the initiative promotes a sense of pride and togetherness among residents.

“We want the community to be surrounded by love, and we will promote this idea so that it continues to spread throughout the community.”
