Transport minister addresses Air Seychelles routes, electric buses and road infrastructure

 Transport Minister Veronique Laporte appeared before the National Assembly yesterday to answer questions on Air Seychelles’ European routes, aviation losses, Air Tanzania’s entry, electric buses, and ongoing road infrastructure improvements.

The first question came from Hon. Georges Romain, elected member for Anse Etoile, who asked the minister to explain the analysis undertaken by Air Seychelles before deciding to operate direct flights between Seychelles and Paris, as well as Seychelles and Rome. He sought clarification on market demand, competition, profitability, and operational feasibility.

Minister Laporte explained that the decision to introduce the routes from late February 2026 was not primarily commercial but a strategic response to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East.

She said Air Seychelles had faced a sudden reduction of 64% in available seat capacity and overnight connectivity, creating the need for urgent action in the national interest.
