Commission of Inquiry hears three more testimonies
The Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée prison riot of December 5, 2024, heard three testimonies yesterday: Captain Anil Bristol of the Seychelles Defence Forces, former Vice-President Ahmed Afif, and Superintendent Ronny Julienne of the Seychelles Police Force.
Testimony of Captain Anil Bristol
Captain Bristol has worked with former President Wavel Ramkalawan since his time as opposition leader in the National Assembly. He moved to State House when Mr Ramkalawan became president in 2020 and remained there until 2025. He is now attached to the former president’s office.
He confirmed that he had never worked with a team officially called Team Ibou, but rather with a unit referred to as Special Ops. This team was created at State House for two purposes:
- Acting as the Quick Response Team (QRT), accompanying the president wherever he went.
- Providing protection for visiting heads of state, a responsibility transferred from the police to the Presidential Security Unit.
Regarding narcotics operations, Captain Bristol explained that the police occasionally requested military assistance, and the Special Ops team – being closest to the central police station – was often called upon. He clarified that while the team operated under his command for QRT and protection duties, it fell under the command of whichever authority requested support during narcotics operations.
