‘President’s remarks did not allege Rosebelle imported referenced goods,’ State House clarifies |09 May 2026
The Office of the President wishes to clarify and recant claims raised by Jean Pierre Morin and Rosebelle (Pty) Ltd following the President’s live press conference held on May 7, 2026, while outlining the government’s position on the matters referenced during the discussion.
At no material time did the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, state that the items referenced during the press conference were imported by Rosebelle.
In light of the foregoing, the Office takes note of the readiness with which Mr Morin and Rosebelle (Pty) Ltd have sought to associate themselves with the President’s remarks.
However, the remarks made by the President concerned records to imports linked to entities associated with State House during the previous administration, and did not constitute any personal allegation against Rosebelle.
During the press conference, the President said the affiliated entities were involved in the importation of substantial quantities of food into Seychelles.
“Records indicate imports ranging from approximately 800,000 yogurts to large consignments of meat, mutton, and beef,” the President stated during his deliberations.
He further noted that reports showed such imports occurred almost every two to three months, together with the arrival of nearly 30 chillers carrying flowers, despite there being no corresponding storage infrastructure at State House. Consequently, the President stated that questions remain regarding the destination and use of these consignments.
During the press conference, the president raised concerns over enquiries made by former President Wavel Ramkalawan regarding office space at the Rosebelle Complex following his departure from office, which the government declined. Instead of his preferences, President Herminie stated that four government office options were proposed to the former President.
Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing to establish the full facts surrounding these matters. The government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and due process.
