CBS strengthens financial consumer protection with new guidelines on unfair contract terms

 

The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) has issued new guidelines on Unfair Contract Terms in Financial Services to ensure fairness and transparency in contracts between CBS-regulated Financial Service Providers (FSPs) and consumers. The guidelines, which have been approved by the CBS board, were issued on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Financial services contracts set out the rights and responsibilities of both FSPs and consumers. However, CBS has observed that some contract terms may undermine consumer interests. The new guidelines address this by clarifying what constitutes unfair contract terms and how such terms should be identified and corrected.
