‘Labour Day 2026 – A time to defend work, not just honour it’ – LDS

“On this Labour Day, the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party stands firmly with the workers of our nation – not only to celebrate their contributions, but to speak truth about the challenges they are facing today.

“This year, Labour Day comes at a difficult time. Too many hardworking men and women have lost their jobs under the current government’s policies. Families are struggling, livelihoods have been disrupted, and uncertainty has replaced stability for far too many citizens.

“Labour Day cannot simply be a celebration when so many are being left behind. We denounce the decisions that have led to job losses and economic insecurity. Seychellois workers deserve better. They deserve leadership that

protects employment, supports local industries, and prioritises the well-being of its people over short-term political gains.

“The LDS party remains committed to rebuilding opportunity – creating sustainable jobs, restoring confidence in our economy, and ensuring that no worker is forgotten or abandoned.

“To those who have lost their jobs: we hear you, we stand with you, and we will continue to fight for a future where your dignity, your work, and your contribution are respected and protected.

“This Labour Day, let us not only honour work – let us defend it.

“Happy Labour Day to all.”

Hon. Philip Monthy

Secretary General

Linyon Demokratik Seselwa
