First Lady leads green drive at Bel Eau

The Office of the First Lady, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, marked this year’s International Day of Forests with a conservation activity at Bel Eau headquarters yesterday.

The initiative involved clearing invasive creepers and planting native trees to restore forest health and strengthen biodiversity.

First Lady Veronique Herminie explained that during a recent visit to Mauritius she met with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to learn about strategies for managing invasive creepers. “There are several methods I learned which I will share with the Ministry of Environment. My intention is to explore how we can develop this into a circular economy project,” she said, warning that invasive creepers can become a serious threat if left unmanaged.
