Minister Charlette’s message on Orange Day – January 25, 2026 |24 January 2026

‘Speak out against violence, support those affected, and take action’
“Today, Seychelles joins the global community in marking the first Orange Day of the year, reaffirming our national commitment to ending all forms of violence against women and girls.
“Observed on the 25th of every month under the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign, Orange Day serves as a reminder that violence against women and girls remains a serious human rights and development issue requiring sustained action. The colour orange symbolises hope for a future free from violence, fear, and discrimination.
“Violence against women and girls undermines families, weakens communities, and erodes national development. It affects physical and mental health, limits educational and economic opportunities, and perpetuates inequality across generations. The active engagement of men and boys as partners, allies, and advocates for positive change is essential to challenge harmful norms, promote respectful relationships, and foster safe families and communities.
“Addressing this issue is not only a moral imperative – it is a social, economic, and developmental necessity. Today’s observance sets the tone for the year ahead, reinforcing the need for continuous prevention, protection, and support. As we begin 2025, this Orange Day also invites reflection as we look forward to International Women’s Day on March 8. Celebrating women’s achievements must go hand in hand with strengthening efforts to ensure the safety, dignity, and equality of women and girls in all spaces.
“The Ministry of Social Affairs, Family and Equality remains committed to working with partners, communities, and families to prevent violence, support survivors, and promote a culture of respect and equality.
“On this Orange Day, we encourage everyone to wear orange, speak out against violence, support those affected, and take action – because a future free from violence is a responsibility we all share.”
