No new fines for loud music: Government clarifies policy |10 January 2026
The Office of the President wishes to address a graphic currently circulating on social media, attributed to the Seychelles Police Force, which claims that motorists may be fined R1,000 for playing loud music in vehicles and that such conduct could lead to the registration of a criminal case.
“We wish to clarify that this measure was introduced by the previous administration on February 1, 2022, when the fine was increased from R200 to R1,000. As this regulation is already in force, the Police Force remains committed to enforcing it under the ‘Arrive Alive Campaign’,” says a communique from the Office of the President.
“The current government has not introduced, approved, or implemented any new measures imposing fines or criminal sanctions for loud music in vehicles. No directive has been issued, nor has any enforcement instruction been formally approved by the present leadership,” adds the communique.
