Historic global win for sharks and rays as new trade limits take effect
In a major conservation victory, countries around the world have agreed to new international trade rules that protect more than 70 species of sharks and rays. The decision was made in late November and early December 2025 at a big wildlife meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, known as the 20th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP20).
