Seychelles lose all three group matches
The Seychelles under-20 team are expected back today after losing all their three group C matches at the 2019 Cosafa Men’s Under-20 Championship taking place in Lusaka, Zambia.
After losing 0-8 to Angola in their first match, Seychelles, coached by Cliff Nolin and Ted Esther, were edged 0-1 by Eswatini before they netted their first goal of the tournament in a 2-3 defeat against Mozambique.
Kelsun Brutus and Brandon Fanchette were the scorers for Seychelles against the Mozambicans.
With three defeats in as many matches, Seychelles finished last on the four-team standings with just two goals scored and 12 conceded.
Angola won group C with three wins for nine points, followed in second place by Eswatini with six points (two wins and a loss) and third were Mozambique with three points (one win and two losses).
The semifinals are scheduled for today at the Nkoloma Stadium. In the first match, South Africa will clash with Madagascar, just four days after the two teams met in the pool stages and played out a 1-1 draw.
The other semifinal is between Zambia and Angola. The two sides finished the group stages with 100 percent records, winning all three of their games.
Angola topped group C by scoring 13 goals and conceding only one, while Zambia were equally impressive in Group A.
