Seychelles participates in UN talks on a global treaty to curb plastic pollution

 

The second part of the fifth Intergovernmental negotiating committee on plastic pollution INC5.2 came to a close in the morning of August 15, 2025 in Geneva without the parties getting consensus on the articles of the proposed treaty, the first part having taken place in Busan, South Korea between November 25 and December 5, 2024.

The latest text proposed by Uruguay chair Luis Vayas Valdivieso late in the night was given a positive reception by representatives in the early morning session, who called it an improvement on the last version presented on August 14, but some countries and blocs roundly rejected this as a basis for further negotiations. The chair communicated in the closing session that INC would reconvene at a later date to continue the process of negotiating an agreement.
