Training for Praslin and La Digue
electoral officers and deputies
As part of ongoing trainings for electoral officers and their deputies, the Electoral Commission of Seychelles met with those assuming the above roles in polling stations on Praslin and La Digue over the weekend.
This was the last in a series of three training courses to ensure electoral preparedness and standardisation at all polling stations across the country.
The training took place at the Baie St Anne school on Eve Island.
Participants were engaged in both theoretical and practical sessions facilitated by five electoral officers who have assumed this role over many years namely Percy Quatre, Benneth Accouche, Steve Hoareau, Charles Loizeau and Patrick Coopoosamy, who were meticulous in their presentations. The participants were able to ask questions, clarifying various points and changes required to be made.
In the afternoon there was a practical session held with officers who will be working at those polling stations. A makeshift station was set up whereby they could familiarise themselves with their roles and new ways and technologies introduced. The session was very interactive with various case scenarios that regularly happen at polling stations. They were also able to go over the sorting and counting of ballots process.
The chief electoral officer of the Commission who officially opened and closed the event, Manuella Amesbury, emphasised the importance of a well-prepared electoral team in ensuring a smooth and credible election process.
“The session with Praslin and La Digue officers was the last training on the programme with electoral officers and deputies, and we are happy with the deliveries of the trainers who have spent extensive amount of time and efforts, going back and forth to ensure standardisation and consistency, and at the same time remaining within the legal framework. We are positive that these sessions have been beneficial to all our officers,” said Mrs Amesbury.
The Electoral Commission remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of electoral integrity and professionalism as we count down to the Seychelles 2025 elections.
