Seychelles and Saudi Arabia tackle shared regional threats

 

The International Organisation for Migration in collaboration with the Regional Maritime Security Architecture is conducting a four-day training session in Seychelles to share best practices in maritime security and search and rescue.

The training, which got underway yesterday morning at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, was attended by high-level officers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and local representatives.

In his keynote address, deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier General Jean Attala, said the training presents a unique opportunity for participants from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider region to share challenges and best practices when addressing maritime security threats.

“In recent years, we have witnessed the growing import or instability and insecurity at sea, both directly and indirectly, on global trade, national economies and the daily lives of coastal communities. For island states like Seychelles, our prosperity depends on safe, secure maritime routes, and disruptions at sea quickly translate into challenges on land,” he stated.

Brigadier General Attala highlighted that at the heart of this conversation lies an often overlooked yet vital element, which is the safety and well-being of seafarers.
