Arid denounces human rights abuse in prison

The local prison authority should provide humane treatment to inmates at all times, the Association for Rights, Information and Democracy has reiterated.
It made the statement yesterday following its latest assessment of Seychelles’ prisons and a remand centre carried out in March this year and continued reports of abuse by families of inmates. The report covered three facilities namely Perseverance and Montagne Posée prisons and the Bois de Rose remand centre. In a press release, the Association for Rights, Information and Democracy (Arid) said inhumane treatments of prisoners were still ongoing, citing over 15 reports reported by inmates’ family members.
