NAS reacts to news article referring to pro-Israel parliamentary group
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Honourable Roger Mancienne, has clarified the National Assembly’s position in regard to a foreign news article being circulated on social media, which refers to a parliamentary group in support of Israel.
In a press communique issued on Saturday, Speaker Mancienne said the article is wrong in stating that Seychelles is among six countries that have established parliamentary groups for the purpose of strengthening ties with Israel.
“It is acknowledged that a member of the National Assembly of Seychelles (NAS) is pictured with the article and attended a meeting overseas recently. This was, however, an individual and personal engagement and in no way involves the NAS,” explained the communique.
“No group of the description conveyed in the article has been formed in the name of the NAS. The NAS position on any issue related to Israel will reflect the Foreign Policy of the government of Seychelles as formulated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This policy supports the efforts to reach a lasting ceasefire that will bring an end to hostilities in Gaza and elsewhere in the region, the release of all hostages and peace and stability in the region,” added the statement.
