Youth talent shines
- Seniors deliver thrilling action
Under clear skies and perfect racing conditions, Seychelles karting hosted round five of the Seniors Championship, showcasing competitive racing in the 4T Clubman and 4T Extreme classes.
While the KF2 category was once again unable to run due to a lack of ready participants, the event still delivered excitement, development, and promise.
Taking full advantage of the break in schedule, two young drivers – Joshua Cosgrow and Keanu Teerooljee – used the time between races for practice in their two-stroke karts.
Both impressed with their pace, steadily improving their lap times and nearly matching those of existing KF2 drivers.
Their performance did not go unnoticed, with many of the senior 4T drivers praising their progress.
The two are currently in training for the chance to represent Seychelles at the FIA's African Motorsport Games, and potentially the FIA Karting World Cup planned for later this year.
More young drivers are expected to join them soon.
In the 4T Clubman, Adam Ally delivered a commanding performance, leading from qualifying, all the way to the final.
Lexcus Lui Chit Chion kept his cool to take second place, driving a clean race despite constant pressure from Keanu Teerooljee, who continued to challenge the seniors.
Marlon Talma had a strong start in the final but lost ground early, eventually finishing fourth ahead of Leo Padayachy in fifth.
Ally clocked the fastest lap of the class with a 45.800 seconds on lap seven of the 10-lap final.
The 4T Extreme class delivered intense mid-pack battles, but Jean-David Melanie was unstoppable, taking a clear win.
Mitra Labrosse and Eric Maillet secured second and third respectively, though not without a fight, as the field behind kept them under pressure throughout both the pre-final and final.
Melanie also claimed the fastest lap of the day in his class with a time of 45.286 seconds.
Drivers were also briefed on the upcoming FIA national karting ranking system, which SKA is preparing to implement locally.
Drivers were encouraged to keep pushing, as their performance rankings will now offer pathways to further recognition on a regional and international level.
Upcoming events:
- Saturday June 14: Academy Juniors and SKA Girls on Track return for training 4 of the Academy programme. This session focuses on core racecraft and track etiquette, as young drivers continue their progression through the national training pathway.
- Sunday June 15: Seychelles karting will host a special Girls on Track session in line with the FIA’s global ‘Girls on Track’ initiative, which aims to increase female participation at all levels of motorsport. The event will celebrate and promote the involvement of girls and women in the sport, with hands-on activities both on and off the track. Participants will benefit from guided driving sessions, technical briefings, and dedicated mentorship led by senior SKA officials and experienced female figures in motorsport. The session is open to all girls and women involved or interested in motorsport – whether as drivers, mechanics, officials, or supporters – and aims to inspire future talent and strengthen female representation in the sport.
- Tuesday June 17: SKA will host an extraordinary general meeting (EGM). All members are urged to make a special effort to attend, as important updates and matters concerning the development of the association will be discussed.
With young talent rising, experienced drivers pushing limits, and FIA-aligned initiatives now in motion, Seychelles karting is entering an exciting new chapter – fuelled by passion, performance, and a drive to go further.
The public is urged to follow the Seychelles Karting Association’s social media pages for the latest updates, as the next ‘Come Karting’ public event is set to be hosted later this June, offering a fun and accessible way for newcomers to experience the thrill of karting.
