Celebrating Children's Day: Our promise to every child

Every year, the world comes together to celebrate International Children's Day, a special day dedicated to recognising the rights and well-being of children everywhere. It marks the day the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) was adopted which is the most widely agreed-upon human rights treaty in history! Children's Day is a global reminder of our ongoing duty to champion, protect, and uphold the rights of every single child, no matter their background or situation.

The CRC understands that children, because of their unique developmental needs and vulnerability, need special protection. This important agreement has shaped laws and policies all over the world, including right here in Seychelles, where children's rights are a key part of our legal system.

In Seychelles, our own Constitution, specifically Chapter III, 'The Charter of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms,' sets out the rights and freedoms for all citizens. Within this, Article 31 particularly protects children and young people, showing how much we understand their needs and vulnerabilities.
