But first, tea - Cafe74 hosts exquisite high tea party
Cafe74 is an exquisite café located at Anse Royale and is known for its "book corner" featuring a curated collection of books by former President Danny Faure. With not many cafes like it in Seychelles, it serves as an art gallery for local artists, a bespoke boutique selling local artisans, championing the locally made brand and offers a fresh space for socialising, reading and to enjoy one of the best cups of coffee and date cakes on Mahé.
The Seychelles is no foreigner to tea – in fact tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world. But beyond its cultural richness, tea is a lifeline for millions of people. The Cafe74, owned and managed by Shermin Faure, hosted a unique High Tea Party prebooked by clients last Sunday.
Clients enjoyed an exquisite High Tea Experience with decadent selections of bites, a glass of prosecco and choices of tea and coffee. The most popular bites on the menu were the eggless and sugarless date cake topped with walnuts, the salmon and cream cheese sandwiches and prawn cocktail entrée which complimented the glass of prosecco well.
Other clients indulged in the blends of tea offered, the freshly baked scones and locally made mouthwatering napolitaines by Shania Talma and macaroons. Not to mention the décor, with decadent bows, flowers and settings, making the clients feel that they are in the remake of a Bridgerton series.
Cafe74 holds a high regard for sustainability, environmental protection and the Seychellois culture. You can find some locally made vakwa keyrings and bangles produced by Juliette Dine, some jams and jellies made by Sey Delicious, jams from Lakwizin products by Hafiza Talma, coconut oil by CocoFarm and local honey. This includes colourful keyrings and coasters made from recycled plastic by SeyTreasure. After buying your selection of locally made produce the café also sells blends of organic tea, healthy foods and oils. Well known for the best lemongrass juice on the island, fresh paninis and crepes, the café offers takeaways and breakfast options for the healthy conscious. It takes pride in crafting everything in-house and commits to culinary excellence using fresh produce and ingredients. Its commitment to excellence drives it to source only the finest ingredients for its creations. This is especially true for the High Tea Party, a culinary and decorative experience that is unique to the café and its ethos. The event, which exceeded the clients’ expectations, will now be a regular event at different dates throughout the year. Save the date for the next one in July.
