Praslin gears up for International Biodiversity Day this week

By Mandy Bertin

A series of activities are being organised on Praslin this week to mark this year’s International Biodiversity Day which falls on May 22.

The environment department, in collaboration with the Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF) and other partners, is organising activities from May 20-24, under the theme ‘In harmony with nature and sustainable development’.

On May 20, members of the Praslin community are being called on to join hands with SIF, the environment department and the Seychelles Defence Forces to eradicate invasive species which are affecting our endemic and native species on the island. The aim is to get the community to engage and take action in the protection and conservation of our biodiversity.

The eradication activity will be held from 9am to 12pm near the Vallée de Mai reserve, at the SIF Stewardship Plot and Meditation spot.
