Golf: McQueen Medal and Absa April Mug

Driving excellence

  •          Showcasing Seychelles’ golfing talent

The greens came alive recently as nearly 30 players teed off for two of Seychelles’ most anticipated golfing fixtures, namely the McQueen Medal and the Absa April Mug.

Absa Bank Seychelles has proudly supported the McQueen Medal since 1976, and the tournament remains a symbol of our long-standing commitment to golf and community development.

These events not only celebrate athletic excellence but also reflect the values of perseverance, discipline, and unity that we champion across the business.

In the Absa April Mug, Pascal Esparon delivered an exceptional performance, finishing with a remarkable 56 nett, tying the record for the lowest round ever posted in the competition.

Alex Ellenberger followed in second place, and Jemmy Esther secured third position, both finishing with strong 65 nett scores.

The McQueen Medal, reserved for the 12 Monthly Mug winners from the previous season, lived up to its legacy as a battle of the best.

Ellenberger rose to the occasion once again, claiming the top spot with a 65 nett.

Peter Moncherry took second place, while Jerry Jean-Baptiste and Alix Esparon rounded off the leaderboard with 68 nett and 71 nett respectively.

Nazim Mahmoud, managing director of Absa Bank Seychelles, said they are honoured to continue the decades-long support of the McQueen Medal, a tournament that embodies the spirit of excellence and dedication.

“At Absa, we believe in backing platforms that empower individuals to rise, connect, and showcase their talent. Congratulations to all players for an outstanding display of sportsmanship and skill,” he added.

Absa remains committed to nurturing local sport and creating opportunities that inspire growth – on the course, in business, and beyond.

Special awards were also presented to:

Michael Lavigne – Best front nine

Femi Kasmaier – Best back nine

Jemmy Esther – Nearest to the pin (Third hole)
